Unfortunate Historical Fact:

Unfortunate Historical Fact:
While reading through early Lafayette Oregon History the below was found and a matter of Historical Fact:
-‘When Lafayette was the county seat of Yamhill County, there was filed in the courthouse there the inventory of the estate of Miles Carey. I had occasion to look it up about 50 years ago, and I noticed among his assets, which consisted of horses, cattle, farm machinery and other such equipment, the item, ‘One Negro slave named Bob.'”

  1. There has been some concern raised that the claim of the mention of having a slave as property is not proven. The secondary source material shared is from a News Register article from 2004. Written by a respected Yamhill County Historian. If this is proven to be false 3.5.7. will gladly retract. 357.
